EX-OFFENDERS living in a house in Farnborough are being moved out due to fears for their safety.

The tenants in the home are prison leavers who have served under a year in custody, are not on probation supervision and would have otherwise been homeless.

But because of untrue rumours circulating about the people living in the address in Starts Hill Road – including the rumour that seven paedophiles and a murderer are living in it – means the St Giles Trust is concerned they could be attacked.

The charity is now taking action to move all of the tenants from the property.

A spokeswoman said: “The rumours currently in circulation about the offending history of tenants at this property are completely untrue.

“The property is privately owned.

“It is not owned or run by St Giles Trust.

“The clients were housed in it under a project under which private landlords rent out their properties to homeless prison leavers who have served under 12 months.

“It is standard practice for charities working with homeless people due to lack of availability of social and public housing.

“We carefully vet each client we place in privately rented properties and specifically ask the prisons or any other agencies who refer clients to us if there is a history of sexual offending.

“Where there is we have robust systems in place - these include working with the police Jigsaw teams - to ensure that appropriate housing is provided.

“As a small charity on limited resources we are funding costs of relocation and emergency bed and breakfast accommodation for them.

“We are aiming to have the matter resolved as swiftly and peacefully as possible by the end of today.”
