AN OLYMPIAN has visited a school in Hayes to inspire the next generation to take up sport.
Former World European and Commonwealth champion Nick Gillingham visited pupils from Hayes School in West Common Road and activities included beach volleyball, basketball and golf as well as more traditional team sports.
Children from Hayes Primary, Wickham Common Primary and Pickhurst Junior Academy also attended the mini Olympics event.
The swimmer, a double Olympic medallist, said: "I must give my congratulations to Hayes School and in particular David Loomes for an excellent Olympic Legacy event.
"All 90 primary age school children had smiles from ear to ear and the help and support from the young leaders and volunteer pupils of Hayes School was of the highest standard.
"The sun shone and with so many sporting activities to try the whole afternoon was gone in a flash."
