POPULAR Eltham artist John Tanton, who died two years ago, will have his finest work displayed in London.
The Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly, is hosting an exhibition until August 14 featuring paintings by the artist, who died in November 2011, aged 90.
Mr Tanton took evening art classes at the Haimo Road Centre, part of the Eltham Evening Institute, and eventually become a teacher there, during which time Haimo Road became a centre of excellence for art.
He also later taught at Dartford College of Education.
The artist showed his work many times at the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibitions and shows in London and Kent, but felt that commitment to commercial galleries would take the fun out of painting.
Friend Elinor Stewart said: "John was a natural painter with an extraordinary understanding of the capabilities of paint not just to inform, but also to move the viewer."
