NICK Clegg claims he would not take a bumper pay rise if it is awarded to MPs – do you applaud his stance and would you do the same in his position?

Amid reports the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) is considering setting a pay rise of almost £10,000, taking an MP's salary to £75,000, the Deputy Prime Minister has warned the public would not understand it if MPs were awarded a large pay increase.

He said: "My own view is that the public would find it impossible to understand - particularly as (there are) millions of people in the public sector whose pay is only increasing by one per cent - that their parliamentary representatives at a time like this would be receiving pay increases far in excess of that one per cent increase.

"Speaking for myself I would certainly seek to do whatever I can to make sure that either this decision is not taken in the first place - but that's out of my hands - but, secondly, if were to be taken, not to take that pay increase."

o you think MPs deserve a pay rise? Do you think they should be compelled to Mr Clegg’s lead and say they will refuse any large pay increase if it comes their way?

What do you think a reasonable annual salary for a Member of Parliament would be? Would a higher wage make it easier to recruit potential parliamentary candidates? Would it stop MPs feeling the need to take lucrative second jobs or outside interests while serving in parliament?

Could MPs' jobs be made part-time, where they are given an allowance for attending debates and votes rather than it being their main living?

Do you see a situation when you would ever turn a big pay rise offered to you?
