A GRAVESEND headteacher is “delighted” after her school was rated ‘outstanding’ following a recent Ofsted inspection.

Inspectors visited Mayfield Grammar School, in Pelham Road, on June 11 and 12 and decided the school should be graded with the highest rating in all four key inspection areas.

The report praised both the teachers and pupils, saying: “Teachers enjoy their teaching and work hard to ensure that what they provide in the classroom helps students to flourish.”

It added “the behaviour of the students is exemplary” and said leadership has helped to “create a school where all students flourish both academically and socially.”

Headteacher Elaine Wilson said: “The judgement reflects the hard work and dedication of all those associated with our school community and I would like to thank all our pupils, staff, parents and governors for their support.”

The school, previously known as Gravesend Grammar School for Girls, teaches 975 students aged between 11 and 18, including boys in the sixth form.
