DOZENS of floral tributes have been laid at the scene where popular Erith teenager Kyle Rich died.

The 18-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car in Thames Road, Crayford in the early hours of June 21.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene, near Thames House, at 5am, but despite the best efforts of paramedics Kyle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the red Land Rover estate, a 56-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been bailed until September 5.

News of the death of the former Erith School pupil has shocked the community.

Kyle’s friends and family have laid flowers and heartfelt messages at the crash scene.

One read: “RIP Kyle, such a sad day for everyone. In our hearts forever. Alison Parsons and family xxx.”

A giant Charlton Athletic flag full of tributes has been fixed to a railing along with an Addicks shirt.

More than 3,000 people have joined a Facebook page set up the former Bexley College student’s memory.

Calum Blake posted: “We are all hurting, I’m still thinking it’s just a dream and you will ring me.

“You’re a true legend! Always made all of us laugh and smile! I’m cherishing all the memories we had… I’m never going to forget them, I love you so much Kyle!”

Lisa Harper wrote: “Each night we shed a silent tear, As we speak to you in prayer. To let you know we love you, And just how much we care. Take our million teardrops, Wrap them up in love, Then ask the wind to carry them, To you in heaven above. sleep tight kyle xxxx."

Karen Shepard added: “Smiley Kyle, as we used you call you, your missed so much. RIP Kyle xxxxx.”

Martin Peat, vice principal of finance and resources at Bexley College, where Kyle studied, said: "Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are extended to his family at this very tragic time.”

Julie Turner, Principal of Erith School, added: "Staff and pupils at Erith School were saddened by the tragic news of Kyle’s death.  Kyle was a popular and well liked boy and our heartfelt sympathy go out to his family and friends at this terrible time."
