A TEENAGE pedestrian has died following a collision with a Land Rover in Crayford this morning.

Police and paramedics were called to Thames Road, adjacent to Thames House, at 5am.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 18-year-old man who has been named locally as Kyle Rich, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the red Land Rover estate, a 56-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death while driving under the influence of alcohol, and is being held in custody.

Thames Road was shut for five and a half hours between Howbury Road and Iron Mill Lane but re-opened at 9.35am.

Tributes have began to flood in for Mr Rich on Twitter.

Another friend wrote: "Just shows anything can happen to anyone now days rip Kyle rich x."

Crayford Way and Kennett Road was also closed in both directions following the incident and a diversion was initially in place via Perry Street, Crayford High Street and Crayford Road.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed they were called to the scene just before 5am to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

A single responder in a car was sent to the scene along with an ambulance crew, two officers and the medical team from London’s Air Ambulance, who arrived in a car.

South East Coast Ambulance Service also sent a responder to the scene.

A LAS spokeswoman said: “Despite extensive efforts the patient was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from London’s Air Ambulance.”

Naim Malik, 24, of Northend Road, said when he arrived to open his newsagent just after 5am this morning there were already ambulances at the scene.

When asked if there were lots of crashes along this stretch of the road he said: "Maybe once or twice every six months, but not very much."
