FORMER Petts Wood teacher Jeremy Forrest looked up likely punishments his 15-year-old lover told Lewes Crown Court today.

The 30-year-old maths teacher was aware that his relationship with the schoolgirl  was illegal, she told police in an interview in October last year - just days after she returned from France.

She said that she "never" felt her relationship with Forrest, of Chislehurst Road, Petts Wood, was wrong.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, added: "We knew we were going to get caught for something we did not think was wrong which was the most frustrating thing.

"We never wanted to run away. That was not our aim."

She continued: "I never felt what me and Jeremy had done was wrong but I understand by law it is wrong.

"My personal opinion was it does not feel wrong."

Discussing the age gap, she said: "Jeremy knew how old I was and I knew how old he was.

"It did not seem like a problem. Sometimes we had a sudden realisation like 'Oh my God' but then we looked at the bigger picture: 'We are in love'".

Discussing why she liked Forrest, the girl said: "Boys in my year are all teenagers who I was not attracted to but with Jeremy I was."

She said she did not "dwell on the fact he was twice my age and a teacher".

The girl said they first told each other they loved each other in May last year when she would have been 14.

They began a sexual relationship in July of the same year, she said.

In September, after police seized her phone suspecting a relationship between her and Forrest, they fled to France but were stopped seven days and 19 hours into their trip when police swooped on them as they walked through a main street in Bordeaux.

Today the girl said the second to last time they saw each other they looked at one another and mouthed 'I love you' before being separated.

She said she has seen him for just seconds since then and had not spoken to him.

Forrest, formerly of Broyleside Cottages, Ringmer, denies a count of child abduction.

The trial continues.
