A 22-YEAR-OLD man accused of murdering Giuseppina Fazzani in Deptford has been remanded in custody following his court appearance today (June 5).
Mrs Fazzani, known to friends as Josie, was rescued from a fire at the former Lou's Cafe building in Deptford High Street at around 1.30am on May 29 but she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards.
A 55-year-old woman was also rescued from the building and treated for smoke inhalation.
Vietnamese national Tuan Anh Le, of no fixed abode, is accused of murdering the Italian pensioner, along with two counts of arson with intent to endanger life and two counts of arson reckless as to whether life was endangered.
He appeared for a brief hearing at the Old Bailey today. He will next appear on September 4 for a plea hearing.
