HUNDREDS of people took time out last weekend to sit down and have a Big Lunch with their neighbours.

Across Lewisham and Greenwich boroughs, roads were closed off and people gathered for a slap up meal.

Bryan Pop, 56, said the party in Tyrwhitt Road, Brockley, had been a massive success.

He said: "Everything went well and we even got the Mayor of Lewisham to come along and say a few words.

"This is one of the most diverse roads in London and its good to get people talking to each other."

In nearby Rushford Road, mum-of-two Helen Marsh, 38, said families had also collected food for Lewisham food bank.

She said: "This is the fourth year we've done it. It's a really good way to get to know people."

The annual Big Lunch initiative is led by the Eden Project.
