A MAN was killed by a train at St Johns station last night. (June 1)

The train was en route from Hastings to Charing Cross when it struck the man shortly before 11pm.

British Transport Police, Met Police officers and ambulance staff attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fatality caused services to St Johns, New Cross, Lewisham, Hither Green, Mottingham, New Eltham and Sidcup be diverted to Greenwich for about an hour while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Tempers flared at London Bridge station as Southeastern failed to inform passengers of the diversion which left commuters facing long delays.
