PARENTS of a man who died in a street fight six years ago are set to launch their own investigation so they can finally get justice.

Paul Baker would have been 32 next Thursday (May 30) but instead of celebrating the birthday with him, his mum and dad are busy trying to find the people responsible for his death.

He was knocked unconscious after he was involved in a fight with a group of men in the early hours of May 7, 2007.

The kitchen fitter never recovered from the head injuries he suffered when he collapsed to the pavement outside The Lounge bar in Whitehorse Hill, Chislehurst.

Doctors at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup, tried to save Mr Baker but his injuries were too severe and his parents made the decision to switch off his life support the following day.

And for the past five years they have run a charity in his name with all money raised going to the serious head injuries unit at the hospital.

But now they are considering changing the charity to a foundation and using the money to hire people to investigate what happened.

Paul’s father Les, of Austin Avenue, Bickley, said: “We want to get justice for Paul.

“It has been as hard as hell since he died.

“He’s my son and it [the pain] does not go away.

The 58-year-old says he has heard the people who killed his son were drug dealers and added: “I just hope one day the boys take an overdose and die because that is what they deserve.

“Witnesses should come forward because you’re talking about someone’s life.

“The people who did it should face justice.”

This year Mr Baker says they will mark his son’s birthday quietly.

He said: “We will have a few close friends round and that will be it.

“All I want to do is get the people responsible for his death imprisoned.

“He had so much to give.

“He was a successful young man; he had his own house and business and he was doing well in life.”

Mr Baker wants to speak to anyone who may have more information about what happened on the night of May 7, 2007.

Two pairs of brothers stood trial at the Old Bailey in spring 2008 accused of causing the death of Paul Baker.

They were all cleared by a jury.
