A PEDESTRIAN from Swanley has died after being hit by a lorry on the M25 this morning.

The victim, who was in his 40s, was hit by the DAF truck on the clockwise stretch of the motorway between Junction 3 at the Swanley Interchange and Junction 4, Orpington, just after 3.30am.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and it has been confirmed the victim was not a motorway workman.

Accident investigation work took place at the scene of the crash throughout the morning and the road was completely closed during this time. It re-opened at midday.

No arrests have been made.

Traffic was previously being diverted via the hollow triangle symbol on the M20, A20 and M26 to rejoin at Junction 5.

Rush hour motorists faced lengthy delays on the A20 travelling towards London, with reports suggesting it was taking around an hour to travel between Junction 3 and Crittalls Corner.

There were also heavy delays on the anti-clockwise stretch of the M25 between Junction 4 and the Swanley Interchange, particularly on the slip-road at Junction 3.

Crash witnesses or anyone with information about what happened is asked to call PC Jamie Woodhams at Kent Police on 01622 798538.
