A WEEK is a long time in politics but it seems to be even longer for one particular pub.

Drinkers were casually enjoying a Friday night drink when police raided the Black Horse pub, Main Road, Biggin Hill.

Four people - two men aged 41 and 20, and a woman aged 30, all from Biggin Hill and a 25-year-old woman from New Addington - were arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine in the raid.

They were all given cautions for possession of cocaine.

The 20-year-old man was kept in police custody for non-payment of fines at Camberwell Magistrates' Court and taken there on the Monday morning.

On the Sunday the atmosphere was a lot friendlier when hundreds of people enjoyed a fun day after a 5km walk to raise money for the Chartwell Cancer Trust.

Among the revellers helping to pay for staff who work at the Chartwell Unit at Princess Royal University Hospital, Locksbottom, was 90210 television star Shenae Grimes.

She was there with her partner Josh Beech, whose mum Bobby is the event’s main organiser and a charity trustee.

Mrs Beech said: "Five years ago we had 40 people walking in the rain and this year I was absolutely blown away.

"We had 500 walkers and then the pub was jam packed with people.

"People in the village say I brought the community together and made a social event and also raised a lot of money for the charity."

But the good atmosphere did not last as two days later Bromley Council’s licensing sub-committee decided to suspend the Black Horse’s licence because of police intelligence about drug dealing at the pub gathered over the last three years.

It also removed the designated premises supervisor from the licence.

The licence will now be subject to a full review by the committee.

Licensing committee chairman Councillor Tony Owen said: "It was clear from the evidence presented by the police and the lack of mitigating circumstances expressed by the licence holder we needed to take a firm stand in this case."
