LOCALS have described the 'shocking' and 'awful' scenes that occurred on the night Kadar Hussein was murdered in Penge.

The 19-year-old, of Upper Elmers End Road, Beckenham, died in hospital 12 hours after being shot on Wednesday night.

One woman, who does not want to be named, ran out of her house to help the teenager as he lay on the ground in a car park at the end of Kenilworth Road and Westbury Road.

She told News Shopper: "I just heard a big bang and I looked out of the window.

"I couldn't see anything so I looked out of my bathroom window and I saw a man lying on the ground.

"I got a towel and I ran out of the house to try and help.

"It is just shocking, it is a bit surreal.

"Nothing bad like that ever happens around here.

She added: "When it is on your doorstep it is really worrying.

"You hear about it happening in other areas but this is a nice area, everything is all really nice.

"There are always children out there playing but they were in that night because Chelsea were playing.

"It is just so upsetting, I haven't really slept since it happened."

Frances Read, 17, of Westbury Road, was at home on the evening of the incident.

She said: "My dad heard the shot. He came running in and said 'someone has just been shot'.

"I didn't believe him, I was just in shock.

"I looked outside and saw the person in the car park. It is just awful.

"There were a lot of police cars, ambulances, there was a helicopter.

"There were two women who were screaming and crying as he was taken into the ambulance. The police were holding them back.

"It is tragic. It is just really sad."

Jessica Steele, 24, who works as a nanny in Westbury Road, said: "I left the house at 7.45 and it happened just minutes later, so it is quite scary.

"It is horrible. There are a lot of young children who live on this road, so it is really scary for them.

"They (groups of youths) hang out there quite a lot, people as young as 13 or 14 years old, so that's really worrying."

No arrests have been made.
