A CARETAKER has avoided jail after stealing cash from the church he worked at.
Norman Penfold, of Albermarle Road, Beckenham, broke into a room at Bromley United Reform Church in Widmore Road and stole £70.
The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to burglary at Bromley Magistrates’ Court and received a 26-week jail term, suspended for a year.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £80 as well as court costs of £85.
