LOOKED after children in Bexley will be able to enjoy free swimming at the borough's leisure centres from this month on.

The Children in Care Committee (CiCC) have been lobbying councillors and Parkwood Leisure for the opportunity to use Bexley's three leisure centres at a discounted rate.

Free swimming will be available at Erith, Sidcup, Crook Log as well as Dartford leisure centres.

Part of the council’s Children in Care Pledge states looked after children will be supported to enjoy their leisure time and be given every opportunity to stay fit and healthy.

Cabinet member for children’s services Councillor Katie Perrior, said: "Part of Bexley's Children in Care pledge focused on the importance of an active lifestyle.

"Like any parent we want to make sure that this happens.

"By working with the CiCC, the council and Parkwood Leisure have hopefully made this a bit easier on the pocket by providing free swims for all our children in care.

CiCC vice-chairman Kurt Kingswood, 21, said: "This is real triumph.

"Free swimming for our looked after children is just fantastic."
