A BUS inspector came to the rescue of an elderly woman after the tyre of her mobility scooter burst in Downham on Monday (April 30).

Rose Barker, 72, of Brookdale Road, Catford, started experiencing problems with the scooter in Downham Way, and wobbled her way to Catford bus station, Bromley Road, where she was greeted by the heroic inspector.

Mrs Barker, who suffers from severe arthritis, told News Shopper: "I went to the bus station where I spoke to an inspector.

"He went to try and blow up the tyre but that didn't work.

"He told me not to worry and that he would get me home and he did.

"Without him I don't know what I would have done, I would have been stuck there, I would never have been able to get home."

The inspector, whose name Mrs Barker does not recall, put her on a bus that took her to within a few minutes of her house.

Once home she paid a visit to Watling Tyres, Rushey Green, who were happy repair her tyre for her.

She added: "I was very touched by all the help I received.

"The inspector, and the people at Watling Tyres, they all were very good to me."
