MIDWIVES at South London Healthcare NHS Trust have launched a Call the Midwife campaign telling people to contact them as soon as a pregnancy is discovered.
They will be taking the message their message on the road with a roadshow to raise awareness of the benefits of getting them involved early on.
The trust’s midwifery manager for community services and antenatal clinics Giuseppe Labriola says an early meeting enables pregnant women to explore their options.
She said: “It is really important to access a midwife as quickly as possible and people don’t seem to realise we are more than happy to be contacted directly.
“There is no need to visit the GP before coming to us and it has been proven that the sooner a woman has an appointment with a midwife, the better the healthcare outcomes are.”
