A SUTTON-AT-HONE homeowner is calling for someone to take responsibility for a “dangerous” water leak that has created a “lake” on a popular footpath.

Up to two-inches of water can regularly be found on the short-cut linking Millstone Mews and The Mill estate with Devon Road in South Darenth, according to George Clark.

Mr Clark, who has lived in nearby Axtane Close for two-years, says he was told the water is appearing from the site of a natural spring, which lies beneath the cobbled paving.

The 54-year-old said: “People from the estate like walking through to the local shops and facilities.

“Old people cut through on the way to the doctors it and parents use it to take their children to the nursery.

“I walk through it every other day and it is a wonder that no one has had an accident at this time.

“If someone went round and broke their neck it would be sorted tomorrow.”

He added: “At the end of the day, something has to be done. Nobody seems to be attending to it.”

Mr Clark says the surplus water is not going to waste, as there is a run-off drain conveniently located nearby.

He added: “The drain is all well and good if it didn’t leave a two inch lake across the walk way.

A Thames Water spokesman said they have previously sent engineers to inspect the leak but believe it to be a council-owned pipe.

Dartford Council, however, said there was no longer a drainage department at the council and responsibility had been passed to Thames Water.
