Cray Wanderers breathed a sigh of relief after a thoroughly deserved 2-0 home win versus Hampton & Richmond eased their fears of the drop.
The Wands largely controlled the opening 45 minutes against their out-of-form Middlesex visitors, with Danny Phillips and Kavaughn Ward providing a threat down the flanks.
Unfortunately Cray were unable to capitalise on the chances created.
But with Danny Young and Billy Burgess controlling the centre of defence, Hampton's limited first half attacking threat was dealt with.
The turning point for a nervy Cray came on 62 minutes when Phillips had a shot cleared off the line, but kept his composure admirably and smashed home the rebound.
Cray stayed on top, with youngster Ward impressing.
But on 76 minutes Andy Walker had to make two great saves in quick succession, from a free-kick and a close-range effort.
So there was relief from the hosts in the 90th minute when Michael Power's spot-kick made victory safe.
Cray: Walker, Pooley, Clark, Day, Young, Burgess, Power, Stavrinou, Bremner, Phillips, Ward. Subs: Estrada, Fasunan, Fray, G Abbott, B Abbott.
Cray's final two fixtures of the Ryman Premier League season are at home to Lewes on Tuesday (7.45pm) and away to Wingate & Finchley on Saturday (3pm).
