DARTFORD sprint star Adam Gemili has spoken about training in America with the second fastest man in history.

The Olympian has flown out to Florida to train for four weeks with US sprinter Tyson Gay whose September 2009 100m time of 9.69 seconds is behind only Usain Bolt.

Team GB star Adam ran a pretty nifty 10.05 seconds to set a World Junior Championships record in Barcelona last year.

The 20-year-old hopes to improve on that time come the summer season and says he is learning all the time training for a month with some of the world’s best speed merchants.

He told the Daily Mail: "It benefits me so much, putting myself out there and being compared to the best in the world.

"It gives you confidence sitting in the blocks right next to them and then still being alongside after 10-20 metres you start to think: ‘I can do this.’ "It’s good to see how they perform and how they train and live.

"I know I’m still young and I’ve got a long way to go to get anywhere near that level.

"If I want to be better than I am now I’ve got to work hard."

Adam has spent the winter juggling training and his studies during his first year at the University of East London studying sport and exercise science.

He said: "The day after I get back from America I’ve got an exam and I’ve got coursework due in.

"This month will be the most chaotic month with work and deadlines but it’s nice doing both uni and athletics.

"The track can get a bit boring and lonely and depressing sometimes so it’s good to go off and do your own thing at uni.

"My uni mates are really good with me doing athletics as well.

"They know me very well and around uni people know I’m just a normal guy.

"At first it was a bit weird – people started asking me for autographs!

"Now they see I’m just an idiot, a normal guy."
