RESEARCH from Goldsmiths University suggests people with wider faces excel at baseball.

Dr Michael Banissy and Hikaru Tsujimura, from the psychology department investigated the relationship between a person's facial width-to-height ratio and baseball performance in professional Japanese baseball players.

They analysed 81 batters from the country’s Central League Pennant comparing facial dimensions with batting performance.

Dr Banissy said: "Prior work has shown that the facial width-to-height ratio is correlated to variety of behaviours, such as achievement, drive and financial performance in firms."

However, if you are considering making your fortune in baseball and have an unusually wide face, time is of the essence. Researchers found the link between facial width and home runs decreased as players got older.
