A FORMER Lewisham Hospital writer in residence has been named one of the best young British novelists.
Scottish author Jenni Fagan has appeared on the prestigious once-a-decade list compiled by literary magazine Granta announced yesterday (April 15), alongside a former professional basketball player and a metal sculptor.
As well as being a writer in residence at Lewisham hospital in 2010, Ms Fagan also graduated from Greenwich University with the highest possible grade for a creative writing student.
Fellow writer Evie Wyld, who also appeared on this year’s Granta's Best of Young British Novelists list, studied at Goldsmiths University in Lewisham.
She received an MA in Creative Writing and runs a bookshop, Review, in Peckham.
Previous authors tipped by Granta Magazine include stars such as Ian McEwan, Martin Amis, Julian Barnes and Jeanette Winterson.
The fourth decade of the list contains 20 writers in total: 12 women and eight men.
