SCORES of Lewisham drug dealers have been jailed for a total of 70 years after undercover police smashed four criminal networks in the borough.

Lewisham's Operation Trilogy Unit, set up to tackle gang-related crime, led the four-month investigation on the Evelyn estate in Deptford.

Starting on February 15, police were deployed in Shearwater Court - the scene of 18-year-old Adam Pervaiz's drug-related murder in 2009 - buying heroin and crack cocaine. They attended a further 66 times in subsequent months and each time were sold Class A drugs.

After identifying the criminal networks, police arrested 38 people, seizing hordes of cash and an imitation firearm in the process.

Sentencing concluded at Woolwich Crown Court on March 18.

Judge Anuja Dhir, who resided over the trials and sentencing, commended five of the officers' involved for their part in what she called "a thorough and professionally run operation and investigation."

Detective Sergeant Bob Sweeney said: "Operation Nona has proved to be a major success dismantling five organised criminal networks and removing many more drug dealers and users from the streets.

"This will have a major impact on drug-related crime, making the borough of Lewisham a much safer and more pleasant place for its residents to live.

"None of this would have been possible without the hard work of the test purchase officers, officers from Operation Trilogy and the supporting specialist units used throughout the operation."
