A SWANLEY charity shop reopened its doors on Monday after a welcome makeover from kind-hearted bankers over the weekend.

Staff from Barclays bank in Longfield arrived at the EllenorLions Hospice shop, on Swanley High Street, on Saturday armed with paintbrushes to give it a much-needed lick of paint.

In five hours, the team of four brightened the walls with white paint, donated by Northfleet-based Signit Paint Ltd.

Barclays employee Shirley Mason said: "We had a fun time painting the shop, even though we possibly ended up with more paint on us than the walls.

"The end result looked so clean and bright. We were amazed by what four bank workers turned amateur painters, actually achieved in five hours."

EllenorLions Hospices regional retail manager Tim Stewart said: "We are very grateful to the team from Barclays in Longfield for giving up their time and helping to transform the shop.

"I hope our regular customers will visit the store soon and grab a bargain for themselves."

Sales of pre-loved goods at the shop raise funds for EllenorLions Hospices, which cares for seriously ill children and adults in the local community.
