FIVE Plumstead firefighters will be blazing a biking trail across Britain in memory of one of their team.

The crew will be pumping pedals to complete the 1,000 mile charity cycle from John O’Groats, in Scotland, to Landsend, in Cornwall.

The nine-day journey is in honour of Plumstead fireman Alan Thomas who passed away from pancreatic cancer last December.

The group aim to raise £6,000 for Ellenor Lions Hospice, in Gravesend, which cared for the 49-year-old and offered support to his wife and four children.

Plumstead fireman Ty Milward, who was fundraising at Tesco in Welling last weekend, said: “He was a good guy and spent most his time at Plumstead. Everyone spoke highly of him.

“Not only did the hospice look after him, but when he was able to go home, he was sent home with care and his wife was given support.”
