BORIS Johnson's plans to axe police stations across the area have been given the go-ahead.

Following a consultation, Greenwich will lose its front counter, while Thamesmead's day time service will also go and Woolwich station will close.

Five contact points for police will be set up in the borough at existing Safer Neighbourhood Team bases, open to the public from 7pm to 8pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays or on Saturday afternoons from 2pm to 5pm.

A mobile police station will be deployed to Woolwich town centre on Saturdays from 12pm to 2pm and Greenwich on Sundays from 12pm to 2pm

In Lewisham, Catford and Deptford police stations will be downgraded to a daytime only service, Brockley will lose its volunteer-led front counter and Sydenham station will also go.

Suggested contact points for the borough are Blackheath train station, Deptford's Albany Theatre, Sainsbury's in Southend Lane, Sydenham, and Torridon Road post office in Catford.
