Greenwich Coral betting shop neighbouring gambling addiction surgery turned down
A GREENWICH betting shop will not open after objections from a neighbouring surgery which treats gambling addicts.
Coral had planned a new shop on Greenwich High Road and had put in a licence application to Greenwich Council.
But new neighbours the Green Surgery, which treats gambling addicts and vulnerable people, were strongly opposed to the plans and wrote a letter of objection along with many other residents.
Dr Magdalena Czerwińska wrote: "If the aforementioned application is accepted, all of my patients will have no choice but to be exposed to gambling whenever they visit my practice.
"This would be an extremely undesirable state of affairs for most of my patients, and for some it may actually undermine many months of therapy."
The licence was rejected on the grounds of protecting vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
