FAMILIES formed a ring around Lewisham Hospital at the weekend to protest against threats to maternity services.

The Born in Lewisham event saw around 800 people turn up to voice their anger over proposals which would strip the hospital of obstetric maternity care.

Fresh from their victory at Ewood Park, Millwall continued to show their support for the campaign with their big blue bus bringing along Zampa and a team of football coaches.

Afterwards, Lewisham Hospital midwives and deputy lead paediatrician Dr Tina Sajjanhar spoke in Ladywell Fields about the importance of their work and rapper Question Musiq performed the campaign’s fundraiser single Save Lewisham A&E.

He said: "I know there are many families who have been in touch with the campaign to say that their mums and babies would not have survived if they had been forced to find their way to a maternity unit further afield."

Profits from the song's sales go towards a legal challenge by the Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign.

It was launched against Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt last week, citing lack of adherence to the four key criteria which Mr Hunt had set.
