Bexley Council celebrates 21 successful years of apprenticeship scheme

BEXLEY Council celebrated 21 successful years of its apprenticeship scheme last week.

Since the council launched the scheme in 1992, it has helped more than 600 young people in Bexley gain work experience and achieve fully recognised qualifications.

Over the years, the programme has grown from four to 11 apprenticeship frameworks, providing opportunities in marketing, accounting and engineering.

Today, the council is supporting 43 apprentices on work-based learning programmes.

Bexley Council’s cabinet member for economic development and regeneration Councillor Linda Bailey said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic route into working life for both the employer and apprentice, they’re a breath of fresh air in any team.

“Our support to them is part of our wider commitment in helping local people improve their skills, and achieve their potential.”
