A POPULAR GP who served the people of Hayes, Bromley, for 43 years has passed away at the age of 87.
Dr Philip William Lumley - known as Bill - moved to Hayes in 1953, taking over Forge Close Surgery in Pickhurst Lane a year later.
Very well known to those who live in the area, he looked after around 3,000 people from Hayes in the years he worked at the surgery.
He retired in 1997 at the age of 70.
His daughter, Frances Lumley, 53, of Bourne Vale, Bromley, said: "He was an excellent doctor - extremely caring and gave his all to his patients.
"He would have got his bag and ran out to anyone.
"He would have left his house in the middle of the night."
Dr Lumley leaves behind his second wife, Jill, his four children, Julian, Christine, Frances and Richard and his 11 grandchildren.
His funeral will be held at Beckenham Crematorium at 1.30pm on April 8.
