A MIDDLE-aged man was found dead by a passerby in the middle of a Woolwich street this morning.

Police were called to Harlinger Street at 6.41am where a man in his 50s, named locally as Michael Collins, was discovered.

Crews from the London Ambulance Service attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

News Shopper understands the man, who is believed to have lived locally, might have died from a heart attack on his way home.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police says his death is being treated as "unexplained" and enquiries are continuing.

His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem has been arranged.
