UPDATE: Bromley Marks & Spencer trolley rage victim Michael Buckley dies in hospital

A FAMILY friend has paid tribute to a trolley rage victim who has died in hospital 11 weeks after an altercation in The Glades shopping centre in Bromley.

Michael Buckley had been in hospital since December 22 last year after he was struck by a trolley while shopping in Marks & Spencer.

The 60-year-old fell to the ground and sustained injuries including a broken hip and wrist.

Four days later police were informed Mr Buckley, of Whatman Road, Forest Hill, had suffered further health complications, which are believed to have included a heart attack.

He died on Tuesday (March 5) and medical tests are being carried out to establish the cause of death.

One of his neighbours, who did not want to be named, says she had known him for about 15 years and had been looking after his parrots while he was in hospital.

She said: “He loved wildlife and he was a very generous man and very well liked man.

“Every single year before his wife Irene died two years ago they would go to Arizona because one of his favourite activities was to film hummingbirds.

“He was an extremely independent man and I was thinking whether he would go to Arizona again.”

She added: “He loved Elvis Presley and was a consummate fan.

“He was just a nice quiet pleasant man.”

His neighbour says he was quite a frail man who took early retirement from the office of Camberwell New Green Cemetery some years ago because of a knee injury.

She added: “He wore a hearing aid and even though he was 60 he looked much older and looked like a strong breeze would blow him away.”

Officers from the Met’s homicide and serous crime command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

A 30-year-old woman, from Lewisham, was arrested on December 26 last year on suspicion of GBH.

She was taken into custody at a south London police station and has been bailed to return on March 26, pending further investigation.
