Work at the Plumstead portal
ABBEY Wood's Crossrail link to Plumstead will be built by Balfour Beatty Rail in a £130m deal, it has been announced.
The contract includes installing two new dedicated lines, running along existing North Kent ones and providing access to the new Crossrail tunnels at Plumstead.
There will also be modifications to several bridges along the route to accommodate the overhead electric wires.
It also includes construction of a new station building at Abbey Wood with a new Crossrail platform that will allow for easy interchange with North Kent services.
Network Rail’s Crossrail senior programme manager Peter Mason said: "The transformed Abbey Wood station will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the surrounding area and provide opportunities for local employment, meeting the development aspirations of the two London boroughs it serves, Greenwich and Bexley."
Construction work will start in 2014.
