New Gravesham Youth Council elects first members

MORE than 1,000 young voters have elected the new Gravesham Youth Council’s first members.
Pupils at participating schools Mayfield Grammar School, Northfleet School for Girls and Northfleet Technology College voted in eight representatives to attend monthly youth council meetings.
From Mayfield Year seven student Avenicci Hayire, year eight Lydia Narramore and year nine pupil Gemma Hatter were the winners.
Northfleet School for Girls’ Catherine Broadhurst (year seven), Humaira Farooq (year eight) and Alexcia Garcia (year nine) were elected.
From Northfleet Technology College year seven pupil Tyler Kellman and year eight student Nicolas Sainsbury came out on top.
Youth Council secretary Jordan Meade said: "These elections show that the young people of Gravesham are passionate about politics and the issues affecting them."
The next Youth Council meeting will take place on Friday, March 22 from 4pm to 6pm in the council chamber at the Civic Centre. Any youngsters aged 11 years interested in joining can e-mail gyc@gravesham.gov.uk
