Lewisham My Guide scheme launched by Guide Dogs
A GUIDE dog scheme is being extended to Lewisham following a successful pilot in Camden and Southwark.
The My Guide project, run by charity Guide Dogs, sees blind or partially sighted people agree to three or six month plan with a volunteer guide.
Volunteers are put through training sessions on how to guide and also go through a police check and complete online learning before they join a waiting list to be matched with someone who would like to use the service.
London My Guide coordinator Charlotte Gavelle, said: "My Guide is a great way for volunteers to help people with a visual impairment to begin their journey to getting their mobility back, and some may continue that journey further by applying for a guide dog."
She said: "We are now looking for other blind and partially sighted people and volunteers in Lewisham."
Anyone who wants to apply should call 0845 372 7415 or london@guidedogs.org.uk
