Bexley police warning on bogus doorstep callers

BEXLEY police has warned residents about the dangers of bogus callers.
People in the borough have been advised not to let repairmen or people claiming to be water and gas meter readers in or do business on the doorstep without checking with the person’s stated employer.
A statement said: "Anyone looking for a missing kitten, child or ball can wait at the other side of your locked door until you have looked for them."
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes added: "We are asking the public to think first and then say no or tell the cold caller you do not do business at the door or over the phone.
"Secondly you should call police and report that someone has called on you, tell us what they said and if possible what they look like."
The message to potential victims comes soon after an Abbey Wood charity scammer was jailed for six months.
Rosemary Scotter conned more than 50 people into sponsoring her £553 for fake charity walks going door-to-door in Erith, Thamesmead, Welling, Bexleyheath, Belvedere and Sidup.
