RUSHEY Green’s rich history has been celebrated with a heritage board detailing local landmarks and personalities.

Comedian Spike Milligan earns space on the new board along with information on well-known features such as St Dunstan’s College and the Broadway Theatre as well as less famous treasures.

The Rushey Green Heritage Board charts the area’s history from the 16th century when the settlement was surrounded by moated houses to the present day.

The project was launched by the Rushey Green Local Assembly steering committee which was granted £3,500 for the board following a public vote and was unveiled by Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock on February 15.

Sir Steve said: “Rushey Green is not often thought of as an area within Catford that has its own distinct history and significance.

“This heritage board is a testament to the hard work of many local volunteers who dedicated countless hours of research to ensuring that Rushey Green’s history is kept alive for many generations to come.”

The board is located near the corner of Brownhill Road, opposite restaurant El Poco Mexico.
