Mayor of Bromley makes donation to Princess Royal University Hospital

MAYOR of Bromley Michael Turner has made a donation of £2,700 to the Darwin Unit of the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough.

The Darwin Unit provides specialist care for patients with delirium and dementia and is the Mayor's chosen charity for the year.

The money will be used to develop a family room, which will provide a comfortable environment for relatives and patients during visiting times.

A sofa bed will be made available to give carers and relatives the opportunity to stay during the night if a patient is very unwell.

And a ‘Memory Lane’, to help patients reminisce about their younger days, is also being created.

Matron Sarah Eves said: "We plan to decorate a corridor with pictures from the 1950/60’s and to have a pop-up booth showing television programmes from the same era.

"We currently offer patients the opportunity to play games and take part in arts and crafts activities and hope that ‘Memory Lane’ may help them with their recovery whilst in the unit."
