Deptford Evelyn by-election candidates announced

CANDIDATES have been announced for a Deptford by-election after a ward councillor resigned one week before he would have been sacked over his appalling attendance record.

Evelyn ward's Councillor Joseph Folorunso resigned last month to run an orphanage in Togo, with opposition members blaming his work abroad for a lowly seven per cent attendance rate in the last six months.

Following his resignation, a by-election for his council seat will be held on March 28.

Labour have named Olufunke Abidoye as their candidate. Assentors for her candidacy listed on council election documents include two members of Mr Folorunso's family - Andrew Folorunso and Grace Folorunso.

The Tories have named Simon Nundy to run in the election while UKIP's candidate is Paul Oakley.

For Lewisham People Before Profit, Barbara Raymond will stand, while the Lib Dems are represented by Bill Town.
