Cray Wanderers moved two places up the table to sixteenth after gaining a point in Sunday's 0-0 draw at home to Leiston.

The Wands had to go into the game without centre half and skipper Mark Willy who was unwell, but manager Ian Jenkins expressed himself to be pleased with the effort put in by his team against an in-form Leiston side.

Aaron Day returned from injury to lead the team and make his 250th appearance for the Wands, and the experienced Paul Booth, age 36, came in for his Cray debut in the forward line.

Booth is a short-term signing from Maidstone United, while young Barney Abbott making his home debut for Cray in central defence is the son of veteran striker Gary Abbott who has also signed for the Wands again.

Chances came at both ends in the first half, with Danny Phillips going close for Cray in the very first minute and Andy Walker making two good saves to deny Leiston.

Jenkins was pleased to see his team increase their tempo in the second half, but despite their improvement the game became a tough stalemate that eventually ended goalless.

Cray squandered a great chance to win the game on 75 minutes when Booth set up Phillips but he shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

Cray: Walker, Long, Clark, Day (Eshilokun 82), Burgess, B Abbott, Booth, Stavrinou, Bremner, Phillips, Saunders. Subs not used: Parkinson, Pooley, G Abbott.

Cray are at home to Wingate & Finchley on Tuesday (7.45pm) and then away to Metropolitan Police on Saturday (3pm).
