TWO members of Foots Cray Social Club who boast a combined cribbage experience of more than 70 years have ended their long wait for silverware.

Terry Waller, who joined the Cray Road club in 1967, and Colin Bradshaw in 1972, fended off competition from working men’s clubs from across the country to be win the National Cribbage Championship.

The pair edged past Walderslade WMC from Chatham, 3-1, before storming back from 3-1 down to beat Northampton-based Kingsley Park WMC 4-3 in the final.

It was the first time a Kent club had won the prestigious trophy, open to around 2,000 Working Men’s Club from across the country on February 9.

The long-standing members were awarded a trophy and £800.

Club secretary Paul Savage, who was part of the loyal army of supporters who travelled to Bedford on February 9, said Terry and Colin have decided to retired future competitions.

“But they will no doubt deservedly bask in their victory for some time to come,” he added
