FIVE young cricketers have taken part in a cycle challenge to raise money for the charity C-R-Y.
George Brindley, Arjun Sharma, Matt Davis, Josh Lawrence and Joe Jukes were aiming to cycle more miles than any of the other teams during the event at The Glades shopping centre.
And the teenagers believe their total of 30.2 miles in 55 minutes on a stationary bicycle puts them above the other groups which all came together to achieve a virtual cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats, a distance of 840 miles.
However the real prize for the five was the opportunity to raise money for the Ben Daniels Memorial Fund, which works with C-R-Y (Cardiac Risk in the Young) to boost awareness of the risk of cardiac arrest in young people.
Their involvement in the memorial fund is a personal one for the members of Old Wilsonians cricket club because it is in memory of their friend Ben Daniels.
The 15-year-old collapsed while playing football in 2011 and died three days later due to an undetected arrhythmia problem with his heart.
Paul Daniels, Ben’s father and the founder of the Ben Daniels Memorial Trust, said: “The five young lads who did it are contributing to a truly great cause.
“For them it was a very personal thing to do. Ben was their friend.
“For us as a family it’s great to know that they are keeping Ben’s legacy alive.”

The cycling event was organised by the Bromley Youth Support Programme, with Bromley Mytime joining forces with the council’s youth support service.
