A BICKLEY filmmaker has had his latest project picked up by US movie giant Lionsgate.

The film, called Community, is the second feature to be shot by Jason Ford, 40, of Widmore Road, Bromley.

It tells the story of two film students who travel to a notorious housing estate to shoot a documentary, only to find the entire community has become addicted to a deadly form of cannabis.

Lionsgate is the most commercially successful independent film and television distribution company in North America.

Mr Ford said: "We’re delighted the film is selling as there’s never been a harder time than now for the entertainment industry and I’ve been in it for over 20 years.

"I also think one of the reasons the film is doing well is because it has a sinister twist on relative issues like poverty, lawlessness and the environment."

Community was produced through Mr Ford’s part owned company New Town Films and premiered at Film4’s Frightfest in Leicester Square last summer.

The film was also edited by Jason Rayment through his Aurora company, which is based in Chislehurst.

Community is set to have its UK DVD release on March 11.
