Bromley accountant stole £150,000 he was supposed to give to cancer charities

A BROMLEY accountant who stole £150,000 from family trusts and failed to distribute the cash to cancer charities is facing jail.

Ronald Bassett-Cross, 70, of Sandford Road, Bromley, today pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and three counts of fraud by abuse of position when he appeared at the Old Bailey.

Bassett-Cross was a partner at now defunct accountancy firm Vantis, but was struck off for misappropriating client money in 2009.

He admitted stealing credit balances ranging from £8,970 to £62,845 from trusts including the G St Pierre Trust between August 1992 and June 2004.

Two of the admitted fraud charges relate to an abuse of his position as a trustee of the Sale Settlement Number Three Trust.

The third states that he abused his position as a trustee of another trust by failing to distribute monies to Cancer Research UK and the Marie Curie Foundation.

Bassett-Cross still denies a charge of conspiracy to defraud the G St Pierre Trust relating to a series of properties between January 1989 and January 1997.

The prosecution will now decide whether to press ahead with a trial on this count or accept the pleas.

Bassett-Cross is due to return to court on a date to be set next month.

He is on conditional bail.
