A MUSLIM youth group helped plant more than 2,000 trees in Danson Park on Sunday. (Feb 24)

More than a 130 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association joined forces with Bexley Council to help with the project.

Ken Hobden, chair of Friends of Danson Park, said: "The work will much improve the park and increase the wildlife habitat in the park by providing the nested habitat that's for birds and insects and help to serve our threatened wildlife.”

The initiative forms part of the association’s national tree planting initiative that it is running in conjunction with charities across the UK and has seen more than 8,000 trees planted already.

Mubarak Shams, regional youth leader for Bexley and Lewisham, said: “Events such as these help to promote good community relations and offer us a welcome opportunity to contribute positively towards this great area and country.

“The Prophet Muhammad, who was a mercy for mankind, was particular about protecting the environment and planting trees. It is his noble example which is the inspiration behind this initiative."

Thank you ... Danson has always been a great park, and more trees will make it even better.

Good to see the Muslim community doing something good as opposed to getting bad press. You could help yourselves further by properly intergrating into the English way of life and uprooting the Islamic fruitcakes that are willing to accept housing and full benefits from us yet dont want to contribute nothing but hatred towards our great country which offers real opportunity to those who want to work hard and prosper.

You sir are a xenophobic moron. If we are rooting out fruitcakes we need to do it across all cultures / communities otherwise we will miss most of them.

I agree we should do it across all cultures and communities, but thanks to The Labour Party we have a situation where it has gone too far. As for being a xenophobic moron......i would suggest you get in the real world because clearly you are out of touch with reality.

A group of kids plant trees in a park, and you get spiteful.

You are an embarrassement.

Clearly you have no understanding of the real world and what impact a doo gooder attitiude has towards intergration into our society. Yes they are children unfortunately influenced and encouraged by their elders not to conform into the English way of life. if they did then they would accept that the vast majority of people do not like full face burkas. Those that wish to live in our country should accept our way of life and rules as oppose to trying to change the system into Sharia Law.

1. The spelling of do is d-o

2. There is no 'english way of life' . we are a mish-mash of many many cultures, and all the better for it. This is an ongoing process.

3. As pointed out by goldenbroomboy, a nice positive story about planting trees has been hijacked by the hard-of-thinking who want to turn it into a bash $group discussion

4. It is yourself that has no understanding of the real world... you seem to think that all Muslims wear burkas, and want to impose sharia law. This is obviously not the case - how often do you see people in burkas wondering around ??? also I know ladies who /choose/ to wear the hijab, even if they have grown up without it.

Please think better.
