Bromley Council gives man recycling box with dead spiders inside
2:55pm Friday 22nd February 2013 in News By Heloise Wood
Bromley man is given recycling box full of dead spiders
A BROMLEY man got more than he bargained for when he ordered a recycling bin and was given one with dead spiders inside.
James May, 26, was kept waiting for two months after he ordered a recycling bin for his new house in Addison Road in December.
After several phone calls and re-submitting the order, Mr May was rewarded with a recycling bin complete with cobweb and dried up spiders.
He said: "It was difficult enough getting the bins in the first place, but I didn’t expect they would come with the added bonus of dead things inside.
"I don’t like admitting it but I’m a bit afraid of spiders.
"For ages, around the Christmas period, I just had to put my recycling in black bin bags and I dread to think what my neighbours thought of me, it didn’t give a good impression.
"I understand they want to re-use recycling bins but they could have least have cleaned it out first."
Mr May tweeted a picture of the arachnid-infested bin to the Bromley Council Twitter feed with the hashtag "disgraceful".

Picture actually shows web on the outside by the handle
But surely all he has to do is put papers or bottles & cans into the box, and is he going to clean it out each time is emptied?

What's he going to do when real live spiders from his garden turn up in that box? lol
Anyway, I suggest the reporter learns the meaning of the word 'infested' because that box clearly isn't!

I expect the boxes are stored outside -but I see (if Gremma is correct) he managed to put stuff in the box
To clear the little bit of web off the handle all he needed to do is brush it or even pour water over it
Never mind, I expect he can find a lawyer to sue the council for his hurt feelings and distress - expect he can't sleep at nights

An "infestation"???? Consider how large a spider is, for the box to be full there would need to be several thousand. More likely one spider with it's web and shed skin

It was my box, my only gripe with the situation is the fact I didn't get my boxes for two months.
This all during the two month period after christmas where all my food waste and rubbish accumulated. It was disgusting and the council should be ashamed quite frankly. I am paying for a service through my council taxes that is inefficient.
So my recycling service isn't the biggest part of where Council Tax goes to I get that too, but it all plays a part.
The fact the box came covered, in spiders is irrelevant.
Also I didn't chase after the News Shopper with my story I just did a harmless tweet with no intention of anything further.

Sounds like your gripe was the state of the box
Or did you not say that?
