Orpington charity Harris HospisCare given £4,000 by Knockholt Carnival Committee
ORPINGTON charity Harris HospisCare has been presented with a cheque for £4,000 by a group from Knockholt who raise money for local charities and causes.
Knockholt Carnival Committee raised the money after two years of fundraising, which included quiz nights, musical evenings, a bonfire and fireworks night and the Carnival Day itself.
On Monday night the committee met with representatives from Harris HospiceCare and handed them the cheque.
Judith Godfrey, 46, a ward sister at BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital and committee member said: "We chose Harris HospisCare because of the support they provide when someone is very ill.
"When my aunt, Doris Chambers, the former headmistress of Charterhouse School, Orpington, was terminally ill, her wish was to be nursed at home and without the support of Harris HospisCare with St Christopher's, we would simply not have been able to do this.
"We are forever indebted to their support."
Reverend Gill Storey, Committee chair person said: "The evening was awesome - and the culmination of two years of fundraising.
"To be able to give away £4000 would not have been possible without the support of the present committee and all the volunteers, friends and the local community who gave their time and money
"We are always looking for new people to join the committee and help raise more money for charity, contrary to popular belief giving money away is just as much fun as raising it."
