BEXLEY students have battled it out in the borough’s annual public speaking competition.

Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School triumphed with their thought-provoking speech ‘Does choice make us happy?’ whilst Bexley Grammar School came in second place after delivering a talk titled ‘The last taboo.’

The victorious team of year 11, 12 and 13 students were presented with the Brian Sams memorial cup by the Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Alan Downing.

The mayor said: “These Bexley youngsters have performed magnificently this evening and they and we should be very proud of their achievements.

“I feel certain one or two of them will be back in the council chamber before too long, speaking on behalf of their fellow citizens of the borough.”

The team from Trinity School came in third place, whilst students from Erith School and St Columba’s Catholic Boys’ School also took part in the event, which was held on February 13.
